In 2000, Detroit resident Erik Cronin assumed the production alias Codine (apparently after the computer programming system, not the pharmaceutical) and began cooking up some of the same trimmed, mechanical rhythms of the pioneering electro artists he adored: Aux 88, Dopplereffekt, Nitzer Ebb, etc. Taking cues from their discographies and re-imaginging them as classy, refined techno, the classically-trained Cronin has slowly built up an impressive string of releases, continuing today with the release of his newest EP, Blue Room, on Detroit label Blank. The record's real heat resides on the flip; a tune called "Background Music" that packs some quaking, dewey synthesizers and an assembly line-worthy beat. Grab the full EP over at Blank's website.

Sounds like: Kuniyuki, Innervisions Orchestra, Morgan Geist
