DOWNLOAD: Clues - Perfect Fit
While his old bandmate Nick Thornburn has been getting weird in new projects like Islands and Reefer, Alden Penner has remained pretty dormant since the demise of their band The Unicorns, occasionally putting out some wax and working on his DIY download site Villa Villa Nola. So it was with great anticipation that we checked out "Perfect Fit," the first track to emerge from his new project Clues, which he formed with former Arcade Fire dude Brendan Reed and three other Montreal heads. The song's opening is basically some saloony Rhodes chords and Penner's slap-happy yelp before it throws itself down a rabbit hole, sounding like, uh, The Unicorns, if they'd tried to write pop songs based on Anne Rice novels. Look out for Clues' debut LP to drop sometime in the Spring of '09 on the venerable Constellation Records.
