While they're currently dropping wax with Slumberland Records (also home to Crystal Stilts and Cause Co-Motion,) The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart sound like a band meant for cassettes, walkmen, and early nineties skate videos. Drenched in showers in of solid-state distortion, their concise pop progressions and endless open-chord guitars would fit soundly next to the Dinosaur Jr. and Hüsker Dü cuts in Video Days, and I’m sure Jason Lee could also shred gnar along to them in his backyard (yes, that Jason Lee.) Equal parts Jesus & Mary Chain, Ramones, and Breeders, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart will be crashing their tsunami of distored ecstasy at the Cake Shop tomorrow at 8PM for CMJ. Also keep your eyes peeled for a self-titled full-length, set to drop in February of next year.
