EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: The Organ - Fire In The Ocean + Don't Be Angry

Let me preface this by saying that I love all things Smiths/Morrissey, so I don't take the comparison lightly. When people say a band sounds like either one of them, I generally lose interest, since 99% of the time it's just not true: it's sort of like inviting me to your cousin's art opening because his stuff is "just like Picasso." That being said, I think that sadly defunct Vancouver band The Organ sounds a lot like The Smiths. Lead singer Katie Sketch's mournful warble is a direct descendant of the Mozzer's, and guitarist Debora Cohen seems to own the "make everything sound like bells" machine that made Johnny Marr's work the golden standard of new wave and post-punk. Each of these two exclusive tracks from their posthumous EP Thieves combines those qualities with lilting minor key harmonies, over the chirping clatter of the rhythm section. One listen to these songs and you'll wish they had recorded more.

Sounds Like: The Smiths, Joy Division, Echo & the Bunnymen
