Brooklyn's Kingdom is what they used to call a Renaissance Man: a visual artist that designs his own animated backdrops, a producer that makes beats for himself and others, and a vocalist who can sing the hook or lay down a Technotronic-style rap. "Jump Up Step Back" showcases everything but the visuals: a house beat interspersed with a Lil Wayne snippet, light, playful raps and a sweetly melodic hook. Kingdom's take on Telepathe's much-versioned "Chromes On It" retains the psychedelic punch of the original, while adding a straighter, more disco feel and a mournful rap eulogizing a lost love. Download both and try to catch him live, where he ups the crunk factor and effortlessly blends all the styles that influence and inform these tracks.
