At some point in the near future, the vocoder will get shoved into the same closet of rejection where things like the talk box and the Theremin have gone to die. The kitschy musical device graveyard. Some will probably talk about Discovery like it was Frampton Comes Alive (please let that be the only time those two albums ever appear in the same sentence), but until then, until death metal dudes start putting that shit on their breakdowns, groups like NOBOT will crank out six minute epics called “Drinking Progress” that sound like H.A.L. had a few too many Tecates and got busy with the Logic rig. Equal parts edit-pop and rave-up, “Drinking Progress” is the first tune the Minneapolis group have done as a duo, a line-up they’ll show off at upcoming hometown shows with groups like Estate and We Are Wolves.
