Someone told me that Spiritualized was going on right at 8, so when we got to the club and saw 3 kids on stage who were very much not British or J. Spaceman I was peeved.  Then I sat and watched Grand Ole Party.  At first I was skeptical - the drummer was also the singer was also a girl in a pretty dress.  But then I realized - the drummer is a girl in a pretty dress with one of the most ferocious voices I'd heard in front of a rock group in quite some time.  Because most journalists are lazy, GOPs percussive preacher Kristin Gundred will be compared to Karen and Beth but musically, GOP are an animal of their own.  More blues rock than punk rock, there's a theatrical element to Grand Ole Party's music that doesn't need to be conveyed with crazy costumes - the proof is in the music.  Grab these 2 tunes and check their tour dates - some remaining with Spiritualized and then a string on the West Coast with the Black Lips.  I'm sure the two tours will be exactly the same vibe.
