PBR Artist Update -- Laura Barrett & Woodhands -- NEWS & TOURS!

Everyone’s favorite bespectacled musical linguist, Laura Barrett, who introduced us to the clocklike tones of her signature kalimba with her earlier "Earth Sciences" EP, has been hard at
work on her debut full- length album. On September 23rd, Laura Barrett's “VICTORY GARDEN” will flourish in all its symphonic majesty.
In celebration of the much anticipated release, Laura will be hosting an early afternoon show- after a healthy and hearty brunch beginning (catered by Ajay Mehre and Laura Barrett themselves)- this coming Sunday, September 21st at the Tranzac (292 Brunswick Ave.) in Toronto. Laura says, “We’re going to harvest the fruits of our labour and my debut album, Victory Garden, shall spring forth into the world, helped out by good friends Dan Werb (of Woodhands) who will be serenading us with sweetly wistful piano melodies, and Ghost Bees, enchanting us with their eerily beautiful harmonies.”
Following brunch served at noon, Laura will be performing with her full band on Sunday at 1:30pm! If you can’t make it out to the celebration this weekend, Laura will be traveling out east in October- initial dates are below and there’s sure to be more in the very near future. Victory Garden is in stores this Tuesday, September 23rd.

WOODHANDS HIT THE ROAD WITH CADENCE WEAPON AND RELEASE THEIR FIRST VIDEO!
Woodhands is hitting the road this fall with Cadence Weapon, traveling from Vancouver to Montreal and playing some great shows in between! Dates for all the shows are below, and tickets are available now for most on Ticketmaster or through local ticket retailers.
In other Woodhands news - the new video for the song "I Wasn’t Made For Fighting" is DONE and will debut very soon so keep your eyes peeled on paperbagrecords.com! Also, don’t forget that the new I Wasn’t Made For Fighting digital EP is now available through iTunes featuring the band's club-bumpin' live version of "Under Attack", as well as a "Keytar Hero" remix by the band and additional remix by Mercedeez Bendz.
Woodhands' album Heart Attack is now available everywhere in the US and has been reviewed by Blender Magazine – in what is probably one of the most interesting album reviews ever…
Canadian synth dorks wring laughs out of how much action they’re not getting.

Though they seem like the human equivalent of puppies, nerds are not always lovable. In fact, under the clunky glasses, they can be a bundle of seething rage and hateful desperation. The Toronto twosome Woodhands tap in to that inner sanctum, battering listeners’ brain cells with a keytar and a drum kit. They turn the dirtiest secrets of geek life into wild-humored electro-rock aggression, and they definitely know what they’re singing about—they probably started writing songs because their cable cut out halfway through Battlestar Galactica. The synthesized grunts and squeals of “Sailboats” sound like R2-D2 having angry make-up sex with a couple of lesbian Ewoks. “Dancer” has boy-girl vocals and agitated beats—when they bellow their dumb nightclub pickup lines (“You’re a very good dancer! What is your name?”), they seem fully aware it’s going to be a long drive home alone.
