Buttressed by bluesy piano playing, "Trashcan" feels like it goes with a good bourbon on the rocks. Delta Spirit's lead singer Matthew Vasquez sings with the sort of urgency that enables him to erupt into a shout at any time and then crackle and fade. And yes, he's got similar tonality as Nathan Willett of The Cold War Kids, and no, it's probably not a coincidence since they all toured together (DS also toured with Dr. Dog). Tonight, Gotham city is lucky to have them headline at Mercury Lounge, celebrating the recent release of their album “Ode To Sunshine.” So grab your bourbon and cigarettes and get ready for some action: they're known to clamor around with trashcan lids during their sets.
