Naming your band The Standard is something Kanye would do. I guess they could’ve chosen The Band That You Will Measure All Other Bands By but that really doesn’t have any ring to it. But The Standard aren’t semi-arrogant rappers from Chicago, they’re five guys from Portland who play great everyman indie rock, songs with glassy guitars and simple chord progressions, like Nada Surf sailing through a wind tunnel. They’ve been around for a minute, releasing four albums on labels like Touch & Go and Yep Roc since 1999 before putting out Swimmer this year through Partisan.
