Despite their name, LA’s Time Machine aren’t some sort of vintage-jocking hip-hop outfit, instead rocking their tracks with the same psychedelic wallop that hallmarked much of the Dust Brothers’ work on albums like Paul’s Boutique and Odelay. But unlike their famed LA brethren, the three dudes in Time Machine inject the sort of humming, 8-bit synthscapes into their tracks that would make the whole Wham City collective proud. Today we’ve got two tracks from the group, “(If You Know) What I Mean” is a flirty recount of a night out between a dude and girl that’s laden with ham radio effects, and “Beat It Up,” which sounds like Bonde Do Role jamming with the DeathSet and Spank Rock and was written EXCLUSIVELY for us here at RCRD LBL.
