Like a fine terry cloth robe, The Mole's music is made from a long series of loops sewn together with mechanical accuracy and Colin de la Plante's sense of wonder. While that may seem rather buttoned down, the Montreal-based producer's ear for catchy source material and sense for floor-filling development keep things moving forward, if one row at a time. As High As the Sky, The Mole's debut album for long-time pals Wagon Repair, allows him a wide canvas -- or runway, if you will -- for his aural garments to strut their stuff; it spans the lush blues of deep house, austere grays of techno, sunny yellow house, and even a few multi-hued moments. One fine example is "Alice, You Need Him," which starts submerged, its sonar pings churning forward before drying out on land while grooving. Thanks to The Mole's generosity, we have an exclusive edit of the tune for download. So why not try it on?
