DOWNLOAD: Mark August - Old Joy

The music of Mark August has a certain playfulness about it which often eludes other techno producers. Like a sponge, the Amsterdam-based producer seems to soak up the cheerful, accepting vibrations of his city and wrings them out in his productions. First cast into the spotlight by Âme's keen A&R ears on the strength of "Warm," a mighty yet nimble track, August has since been recruited by Cocoon and Connaisseur, and remixed Simon Flower and Michel Ho (which recently had to be repressed). The tune I keep coming back to is "Old Joy," an internally complex yet simply enjoyable track which oscillates its textured polyrhythms with a wide-grinned ease. For electronic music fans looking to the lighten the mood after countless humorless tracks, keep your eyes and ears on Mark August.
