DOWNLOAD: Leonid - Resting II

Allegro tempos dominate so much of house music, keeping heart rates up and sweat dripping down. But at the end of a long night of dancing, there's nothing better gently swinging your hips at more relaxed pace. It's this window of opportunity that Leonid, the young Irish producer Paul Smith, shoots for with grace and sensuous poise.

His solo debut, the "Mora EP" on Statik Entertainment, blends the languidly unfolding reverb of dub techno and the moonlit aesthetics of deep-house. Mysteriously swirling pads greet listeners upon entry, the title track entices them to groove along to shimmying rhythms and thick 808 pulses reflecting into space. Leonid goes deeper still on "Resting II [V.1]," in which lone piano chords supplement its loping synth progressions to usher in a sultry mood. Things drift to a close on the densely layered ambience of "Mora Resting," as if Leonid has filed down the edges of a shoegaze tune. Dancers and DJs craving something a bit more andante from their dance music should definitely keep Leonid in their cross hairs.
