DOWNLOAD: The Acorn - Goonies 'R' Good Enough (Cyndi Lauper cover)
Full disclosure: last year we saw Cyndi Lauper perform and Radio City Music Hall, and actually won a bet with one of our friends over whether she was going to play the song she had on The Goonies soundtrack all those many years ago, “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough”. The odds seemed against us, but Cyndi pulled through towards the middle of the set and totally batted it out of the park, and we won gloating rights forever. Now, obviously, whenever we hear that song we’re reminded of that one, amazing performance.
We don’t know if members of the Acorn were in the audience that night, but it doesn’t seem unlikely. In any case, the band have covered the song for Cokemachineglow’s bi-monthly podcast, and the Paper Bag RCRD LBL blog let us share the MP3 with you guys. Who thought this song would lend itself to a folk ballad? Just goes to show, whether it’s pimping out Spielberg vehicles or fueling indie pride, good music is good music.
