In a local pop landscape barren and desolate, thanks God for Alizée. Moi... Lolita, her first hit, was part Baby One More Time, part cautionary tale—how utterly disturbing and exhilarating that was: a nation under an underage skirt. Plus Aphex Twin was playing it at the time, which seemed so decadent, yet so ballsy.

Millions of records later, Alizée is back with a new album, Psychédélices, and she's as adorable as ever. I was quite proud when she asked us to remix her new single, Fifty-Sixty. David Rubato delivered in a most elegant and surprising way, fitting her with tightly repurposed Gainsbourg grooves, and dipping her voice in a vat of codeine, effectively turning an upbeat pop number into a slithering, melancholy love song.

Alizée liked it so much that not only did she commissioned a video for it, but also trusted us to pull it off. Check out the video for the original song and do come back on Saturday, as we will premiere our version right here. In the meantime, here is a little something:
