DOWNLOAD + VIDEO + INTERVIEW: CocoRosie
It's been a while since we checked in on Sierra and Bianca Casady, the sisters who form the experimental folk duo CocoRosie. We got super into their 2007 record The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn (two tracks from which, "Rainbowarriors" and "Miracle" we are giving away today) and were anxiously awaiting new material from the twosome. Lo and behold, "God Has a Voice, She Speaks Through Me" reared its newborn head in the form of this lush video, and we fell in love again. The track was inspired by the sisters watching traditionally dressed Muslim women play on a sunny beach, and it's a whirlwind of chimes, xylophones, and (somewhat brilliantly) processed vocals--kind of like what would happen if Joanna Newsome were produced by T-Pain.
We caught up with Bianca and Sierra via a quick email interview, and this is what they had to say:
The single we’re streaming today is called “God Has a Voice, She Speaks Through Me”, could you tell us a little bit about the story behind the track?
One day I was at the beach eating some bread and there was some young Muslim women playing in the water on a lovely sunny day. They were covered head to toe in black cloth while their young hubbies played on the beach in their tiny speedoes.
Is it part of an upcoming album? What can we expect from CocoRosie in the upcoming months?
A lot of hot tranny stuff. Joyful music for the end of the world.
What’s your favorite bar?
I like the ballet bar where we can get our stretch on.
You both live in Paris, a very atmospheric place. How much of the city do you think can be found in your work?
None, we've been inspired by Reunion Island.
You guys have a very particular style. Who are some of your inspirations when it comes to personal style?
Animals and nature and transition and bed time and disco.
