Ah MAY
So rent has been paid and I can live in Bed Stuy another month. Not bad I tell you. Somehow we get by don't we? Whether it's driving trucks, pouring drinks, and playing out in the subway...we find a way to live and hopefully smile.
Well this here's my first blog entry for ALOKE on RCRDLBL. Pysched to be up on this site and be in the company of some real rad bands. The month of May is here and it will culminate on the 31st when we play our next nyc show at REHAB in alphabet city. Jasper is over there now running things. One of Aloke's first supporters, gave us our first show at pianos when we were a fresh faced three piece looking to do things.
good times travel onwards.
May for Aloke means more songwriting and recording. We retreat for two weeks upstate to the catskills to flesh out some new material and just get out of the city to clear the head stare at the stars swim naked in the lake cook out some food and just play play record and play smoke cigarettes and come back with some new soulshakers and heartbreakers.
Then we have Sundays from now till the end of the summer at a sweet recording studio at The University of New Haven where our good friend and fan Matt Labozza is an engineering student soon to graduate next year. Matt learned last week how to get the tape machine up and running and we have bought a bunch of old used two-inch and will be recording and demo-ing a bunch of new songs. We went for the first time this past Sunday and layed down a new upbeater called "The Colors You Have", inspired by our latest outing down to Texas and back. It sounding really great.
Last night we played a live radio show at Break Through Radio thanks to our friend MoJo. Also thanks to Jeff the program director and Steve and Evan for all being so cool and laid back. We played seven songs, three of them being brand new and they will air next Friday, May 9th. You can hear them on their site at http://www.breakthruradio.com
In other news on the acoustic front for those who don't know, Alex Walker and I have a project called "Little Million" where we flesh out acoustic workings that often make their way into the Aloke Catalogue. One of them, "We Can Move An Army" is currently up on the Aloke Myspace page, featuring Alex Charpentier on the most bad ass ol' school three shilling tamborine from Austin, Texas generously on loan from the very special Erin. Thank You Erin. http://www.myspace.com/aloke
You can hear the other new acoustic songs on the Little Million myspace page. http://www.myspace.com/littlemillion
Other than that we look forward to sharing a night of music with you May 31st at 11pm at Rehab. 25 Ave B, nyc.
peace out and much love,
christian
