Thao Nguyen has been all over the NYC music scene at the moment, with everyone from Stereogum to Brooklynvegan savagely singing her praises. Her particular brand of folk music has proven to really connect with the current fickle NYC audience, and the debut LP with her band The Get Down, Stay Down (entitled We Brave Bee Stings & All) was recently released on Kill Rock Stars. The SEEN RCRD LBL blog just released the track “Beat (Health, Life & Fire)” from the record. It has a certain Spanish flair to it, and Thao’s voice effortlessly channels Cat Power without sounding like a bite-off.
