Looking at his Mariah-long manicured fingernails, it's not such a stretch to believe that Matthew Houck is a folk music machine sent from the distant future to impregnate our women and save us from ourselves. Though maybe distant past is a little more plausible. But no need to beat around the bush with bloggy cutesiality. Fact of the matter is, Phosphorescent is the real thing. A thing you need. And he's not afraid to tell you that anymore. Used to be he was humble to a quiet fault. Now he's telling anyone who'll listen, "This is the best band making music right now." Don't get mad. He's from the future.

I spent the weekend at my parents' house and woke up Sunday morning to my youngest siblings singing along to the lovely creak of "I Am A Full Grown Man (I Will Lay In The Grass All Day)," and it filled me up right to the top. I couldn't have felt any more at home. If you go all the way to Austin and don't see Phosphorescent, you're obviously a jerk who doesn't care about saving humanity.
