Dirty On Purpose's Favorite RCRD LBL Tracks
.jpg)
Always one to have impeccable taste, our man Doug Marvin, drummer extraordinaire for Dirty on Purpose, went through all the artists on RCRD LBL and chose his favorite tracks, in a sort of artist-playlist featurette. Below you will find Doug’s views on Felice Brothers, new NYC band Violens, Art Brut, and loads more. Check it!
The Felice Brothers - Tip Your Way
This sounds like it was written forty years ago, by Levon Helm or Gram Parsons. I would swear that these have never laid eyes on a tape deck, let alone an iPhone.
Art Brut - My Little Brother
There are few things more exhilarating than shouting "My little brother just discovered rock and roll!" in a thick British accent. Try it.
CoCo B's - Modern Lover
I have a weakness for well-executed power-pop. These guys are cut from the same cloth as Cheap Trick or Urge Overkill. I want to hear more.
A Place to Bury Strangers - I Know I'll See You (The Clapp Remix)
I can't honestly say the remix improved the song at all, but it's a killer tune, and it's kind of a novelty to hear Oliver's vocals mixed right up front.
Sian Alice Group - Motionless
This is weirdly minimal, disorienting, arty and (against all odds) catchy as hell.
Violens - Violent Sensation Descends
I was shocked to find out these were the guys behind Lansing-Dreiden. Apparently they've left the the post-modern meta-art antics behind and embraced their inner Shins. Who knew?
The Good Good - Clouds
We played one of our first shows with The Good Good, some five years ago at a dive in Greenpoint. They had costumes and puppets. This song is a found tape of a little girl singing an a capella song about clouds, with backing music added by the band. Fucking genius.
Phosphorescent - A Picture of Our Torn Up Praise
I'm pretty sure this is my new favorite band, but I keep missing their shows, so I'm still reserving judgment.
Say Hi - Northwestern Girls
New streamlined name, same old awesome homemade indie-pop from Eric Elbogen and whoever's in his band this week.
Caribou - Melody Day
Someday we've got to put our collective feet down and say 'Enough with the Beach Boys homages already!' WIth any luck, that day will come a long, long time from now, once Caribou has stopped mining "Good Vibrations" for genius hooks like this.
