INTERVIEW: The Morning Benders + DOWNLOAD: Crosseyed

The Morning Benders are good medicine. Whatever evolutionary magic gave melody the power to flutter our girly hearts, they got it figured out. Four dudes out of Berkeley, they turn the San Francisco Bay blues pink with perfect hooks on jangly air puffed gems that you can listen to 15 times over before you realize they're on repeat. Because they sing so sweet, we thought we'd give them a chance to do some talking, too. Figure they're probably pretty good at it. Look:
In a sentence or two, introduce your band to our readers and tell us something we wouldn't know just by googling you.
we are the morning benders. most people don't know that our name is a tolstoy reference.
Which music sites are your must-reads?
as far as straight music blogs, i like stereogum a lot. lately though i have been watching all the videos ("take away shows") on la blogotheque, they are putting out some of the most interesting stuff right now. oh, and daytrotter is amazing.
What have your experiences been as a young band working to get your music out online?
overall people have been super receptive. i think for the most part people are interested in hearing new bands, which is great. the internet is a crazy place though. there's a pretty competitive mentality - who writes/talks about a new band first, who posts the new song first, etc... then it's oversaturated, and people want to talk about how overhyped a band is.
Last piece of VINYL you purchased?
the jesus and mary chain - psychocandy
Tell us about your working with newly launched +1 Music? How did that come about?
we met jonny kaps and nat hays from +1 a year ago at Noisepop in SF, and we just hit it off. it's been a great experience. we are just so happy to have found people who are as passionate about getting music out there as we are; people who still want to put a lot of time into making CDs and records and 7 inches, even though people are buying them less and less.
Plug your favorite bands.
lately we've been going crazy over: grizzly bear, vampire weekend, liars, beach house, we barbarians and the mumlers.
