Like people, bands too can have a bit of a quarter-life or mid-life crisis. Take Brooklyn's Say Hi To Your Mom. After four albums, Eric Elbogen, who is the brilliant creative engine behind SHTYM, decided to change things up a bit. Nah, he didn't join the church of Euthanasia, fedex over a mail-order Russian bride and/or flee to a small island in the West Indies (thankfully). Instead, he cut off the bands' maternal relations (now it's just 'Say Hi' ) and moved out to Portland, Oregon.

The effect? Say Hi's newest release, The Wishes and the Glitch, is refreshingly potent: "Toil and Trouble" has an almost deconstructed electro-synthesized verve, while "Northwestern Girls" features Elbogen's signature warbling-mumbling over vintage keyboards and swelling hook about........Northwestern Girls. As he states in the song, "It must be in the air here."
