Film: Mos Def narrates "A Prince Among Slaves" tonight in NYC
When actor/director Bill Duke (A Rage in Harlem, Deep Cover, Predator) and rapper Mos Def get together to do a project SEEN had to listen.
Tonight in New York City is the film premiere of 'Prince Among Slaves', the story of Abdul Rahman, an 18th-century African Prince, and his ordeal of being enslaved and eventually gaining emancipation. Based on the Terry Alford book of the same name, it's the story of a Prince who was "born a prince, lived his life a slave and died in freedom". It's heavy stuff and directed by Bill Duke with narration by one of our favorite MCs Mos Def. This is a truly uplifting story.
If you're in NYC then pass by The Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center (3940 Broadway @ 165th Street, New York, N.Y. 10032). Prince Among Slaves is showing tonight, January 30, 2008, at 6:00-10:00 PM. Call 212-340-9489 for tickets and more information.
