Exclusive Interview with Worthy

We talked to Worthy via email about his recent inclusion on Sven Vath's Sound of the Eighth Season, the success of his funny-named "Irst_Te?" single and "Hyphy House." We'll also give you a chance to download "Bassquake," his iconic track from his own label, Katabatic.
You recently were picked by Ibiza club god Sven Vath to be on the sounds of the Eight Season. Why is this significant?
Worthy: To me this huge. Sven is one of the biggest Djs in the world and to have pick Claude's Remix of "Irst_Te" for the CD is absolutely crazy to me. He only picks the biggest and best songs of the year. I feel honored that "Irst Te" got on there. Having him play the song really has made me feel like I am really making the music I have been striving to make since I started producing. I think it has given me even more confidence in what I am making too.
What is "Hyphy House"? For people that have never heard Hyphy music, why is it unique?
Hyphy house is a mix of the rap music sounds from Hyphy and house/techno music. To hear what it sounds like you should check out Justin Martin's remix of my Leftroom track "Crack EL." Hyphy is a Bay Area club hip-hop music that is kind of a slowed down version of Miami Bass. The most prominent figure in the scene is E-40. I think what makes Hyphy unique is that it is hip hop made for being in the club so there are just some crazy ass synth sounds and bass. That when are heard on a big club system destroy.
You mentioned you were surprised to hear "Irst_Te?" in the Prins Thomas discomix late last year. Why were you surprised?
I have been a fan of Prins Thomas for a couple of years, and am familiar with the songs he usually plays. I never expected that "Irst_Te?" would fit in with the his sound. He seems to play songs that have more organic sounds in it. I have to say that having Prins Thomas play my select my song to play in his set is the most suprising thing to happen with "Irst Te?" so far.
What remixes are in the works?
I just finished up a remix of a Jamie Anderson track called Sunlight for OM records. I am really excited on the way this one turned out. It has this crazy break in the middle where everything slows way down. I also just finished up another remix for my label Katabatic of a track called "Good For You" by Yankee Zulu. It is sick too, there were lots of great sounds to use doing the remix which made it a lot of fun to do. Its is going to come out at the end of January. Coming up in the future I am doing a remix of a Christian Martin track called "Elephant Fight" for Katabatic and a remix for Gourmet Records.
I also have to give a plug to for my track "Work the Walls" which is going to be my first original release in 08 on Katabatic. I think it is going to be a big one, it has two sick remixes one by Magik Jonhson and the other by Yankee Zulu.
Also out from Worthy:
Two Eps: Mummer EP on Katabatic with a remix by Mike Monday, and Bird of Prey on Utensil with remixes from Style of Eye and Yankee Zulu
