RCRD LBL MEGA DOWNLOAD #4

It's the fourth and final installment of Mega Download, the huge posts full of MP3s and good stuff we've been doing the past week. This time we have everything from Xiu Xiu to Riva Starr to Abe Vigoda, so take your time and savor the final chapter.

Download: Xiu Xiu - Boy Soprano: The great thing about Xiu Xiu is that they manage to make totally non-compromising experimental pop music, and still keep it at a level of accessibility that makes you actually want to listen to it. “Boy Sporano” actually makes you want to get up and dance at parts, which is saying something for a song that sounds like it was made out of broken Nintendos.

Download: Birdmonster - 'Cause You Can: San Francisco indie band Birdmonster released this high octane pop punk ditty a while ago, but it still sounds fresh and exciting. When will they claim their crown of new guitar pop kings?

Download: Chin Up Chin Up - This Harness Can't Ride Anything: Uplifting and energetic, “This Harness Can’t Ride Anything” is the high point of Chin Up Chin Up’s budding career—until they write another perfect slice of indie pop, that is.

Download: The Black Heart Procession - Not Just Words: "Not Just Words" is a haunting ballad like this San Diego band have the knack for writing. Just don’t call then “goth”.

Download: The Blow - Hock It: Khaela Maricich, otherwise known as the front woman for The Blow, is a guiding light in the miasma of boring electro pop out there, writing heartwarming songs about lost love and Magic the Gathering (not joking).

Download: Willy Mason - When The River Moves On: At this point it’s SO lame to call anyone a “New Dylan”, so we won’t even go there, but let’s just say Willy Mason is the kind of acoustic troubadour that’s been sorely lacking from our national landscape for quite some time.

Download: Supermayer - The Art Of Letting Go (Ewan's Daft Funk Vocal Mix): This is what you get when you cross Michael Mayer, Superpitcher, and Ewan Pearson: a completely immediate and disjointed dance masterpiece.

Download: Junip - Chickens: Junip are José González’s band from Sweden, who take his folk aesthetic and flesh it all out with drums and organs. More than just a side project, it’s an extension of everything his sound is about, with two other talented musicians to bring it there.

Download: Riva Starr - Crazy Frog: If there’s one thing we like about dirtybird, it’s their capacity to find a good groove. Riva Starr is no exception, and “Crazy Frog” will have you bopping around (though somewhat ambiently) from the get go.

Download: Abe Vigoda - Dead City Waste Wilderness: Coming out of the whole West Coast post-punk scene that have given us No Age and Mika Miko, Abe Vigoda is four dudes playing powerful quirk-rock reminiscent of the Minutemen and the Joggers.

Nice group of tracks here,

Nice group of tracks here, it's where RCRD LBL plays the part of an external hard drive. That Birdmonster track was refreshing to hear, when will they claim their crown? As soon as they get a new agent maybe, looked like they could've got a deal after SXSW '06, last I checked they were still unsigned. Really nice guys regardless.
