Exclusive: UNKLE - Download and Interview with James Lavelle

SEEN: We heard you recently wanted to remix the score to Darren Aronofsky's "The Fountain" and release it as an album – can you tell us about it?

JAMES LAVELLE:  Sadly though it is not happening now, it felt like a great opportunity to work with the music and dialogue to create a unique remix version of the soundtrack.  Something that I would love to do one day, more like a DJ mix [where] a soundtrack meets the score.

S: How did the work on "Sexy Beast" come about? The tracks were so much a part of the film's soundtrack.

JL: From my relationship with Jonathan Glazier. He directed the "Rabbits in Your Headlights" video for UNKLE

S: If you could be a film composer who would you be?

JL: Vangelis

S: What films have influenced your music?

JL: So many, but those that spring to mind would be THX 1138, Blade Runner, Jacob’s Ladder, Apocalypse Now, Kubrick in general and Terrence Malick

S: What director would you like to collaborate with?

JL: Terrence Malick, Darren Aronofsky and Jonathon Glazier

S: You remixed a couple Oasis tracks for the film GOAL.  How was that experience?

JL: Great fun and lots of memories.

S: Is Giorgio Moroder whack or a genius?

JL: Genius

S: We've heard you once described as 'the Hunter S. Thompson of dance music.'  Did that make you cringe or do you think it's an apt description?

JL: Yeah I thought it was a pretty good compliment.

S: Who are your favorite bands right now?  And favorite beatmakers?

JL: Bands: Hot Chip, Radiohead, M Ward, Queens Of The Stone Age.  Beatmakers: Pablo Clements, Timbaland, James Holden, Bushwacka

S: Best club on the planet?

JL: Womb, La Mania, Fabric
