CHECK IT: Laura Marling

We're really into Laura Marling right now: she's a British singer-songwriter who writes severely spooky torch songs about ghosts and nightstalkers, but somehow manages to sound more like Nick Drake crossed with a medieval troubadour instead of Elvira or something. It just goes to show that British acoustic songstresses aren't all teacups and blueberry scones, that someone is still capable of making jarring, image-heavy music with just a guitar and a voice (and choice use of some lulling strings). Music Liberation just featured her track "NIght Terror" in their weekly MP3 round up, so check it out.
