Hullo!

Welcome to the Drowned in Sound blog on RCRD LBL or Drownload as we’re queerly calling it for short. If you don't know who we are we thought this'd be a good  oppotunity to fill you in. DrownedinSound.com or DiS for short, is a website based in Paddington London but with writers around the globe. It was launched in October 2000 by a bunch of first-generation bloggers, file-sharers, fanzine writers and generally enthusiastic but also eloquent music fans.

Over the past seven years the site has grown and grown into a vibrant community, led by editorial which is renown for its influence throughout Europe as much as its irreverence. The site now gets over 300,000 unique visitors a month, has won some awards which we've not even hung on the wall and has been cussed by Brian May for saying Mika looks "like a diseased Leo Sayer". Whatever.

As well as running the website, DiS also promotes clubnights, gigs and tours, most notably putting on very early shows for the likes of Bloc Party and Jamie T. The last part of our trinity of activity is Drowned in Sound Recordings which has released albums by the likes of Martha Wainwright, Metric, The Stills and Swedish dream-swirlers Jeniferever. The label also had a singles club which put everyone from Kaiser Chiefs to Bat for Lashes on the map.

Whilst blogging on here we'll be offering our Drownloads which will loosely be in sync with content on our website and shows we have coming up, offering many exclusive downloads and remixes, as well as some videos and some hungover prose. Over the next few weeks we'll be setting out our stall, then in December we'll have content from some of our favourite albums of the year (see our top 50 list and vote here) and in January we'll be offering our tips for 2008.
